When Matariki comes around in the year, people from all around Aotearoa come together to remember to good memories of the past and to share in the warm feeling of family, everyone is welcome to join and everyone is welcome to stay. the ancestral bond of a family is everlasting.

I wanted others to share in this feeling so I made an event that is entirely Matariki oriented, anyone in the neighboring city is welcome to come to this event and listen to stories, eat good food and just enjoy the local atmosphere.

My target audience were those that may not be attending the event normally, I didn't need to advertise to people that were all ready going to go no matter what, because of this I tried to make my title's design very traditional and old fashioned yet modern. Here is a close up of what I mean:

The outline of the text makes it feel modern and the stripes/lines within the text gives off an old fashioned vibe as they look like wood carvings.

I tried to make the overall design of the poster as lifelike as possible, I made it a moon rising out of the sea as that is where it rises from in my city and I also added a shimmer effect to the water.

Anyway my event had a lot of traction, I even made a website for people to write reviews and just see a more in-depth description on what is actually going on. It was a great success and I hope everyone who came this time will come back the next time, and of course for more people to come too.
